CEDER Old Folks Home

In our program in Honduras we are focused primarily on the "Poorest of the Poor" in the rural villages in the mountain areas of the central highlands. However, we have determined that in our work we cannot be blinded to the pressing "special" needs we come across. Much like the story of the Good Samaritan in the New Testiment, such a thing happened.

I was traveling with Chet Thomas of Project Global Village and we stopped at this Old Folks Home. After visiting with the founder, Dr. Francisco, I learned that they were in the process of building a new, safer facility on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa. As many building projects go they had run into a financial crunch and needed to get the roof placed on the building, but had no funds to do so. Well, it was obvious to me that we needed to help, so we made the commitment to purchase the materials and make it happen.

After meeting the sweet old folks who live there, we also determined that we would do something for them as a "Special Christmas Project". We enlisted the help of Lizzeth Thomas, Chet's wife, and were able to purchase a set of new clothing including bathrobes, shoes, toiletries, dresses for the women and pants, shirts, etc. for the men. What a treat to see their faces as the gifts were handed out! Although I was not there for the Christmas gifts, I did have the honor of fitting the shoes on each resident personally in January. I have never felt so fulfilled personally and proud of what YOU are doing to bring a little light into the lives of these less fortunate people.

These two videos tell the story.

Que Dios les bendiga un monton.
