The Story of the Scholarship Program
While I was at the village of Santa Fe, I met Yadira. She recently graduated from the 6th grade and I asked her where she would be going to school when it started back up in February. She shyly looked down at the floor and said that the would not be going back to school because she would have to travel outside the community, would have to buy uniforms, would have to buy books, etc. etc.
The thought occurred to me that if we are going to make lasting changes in the communities in which we work we must help the people raise their level of education. A sixth grade education just will not due. Because of the latitude that I have been given to make decisions I began developing the idea of a scholarship program to help people like Yadira continue their schooling. After determining that she really wanted to go on, and that her parents supported her in this, we decided to implement the program.
Without the support and trust of the Cathedral of Joy family, this reality for Yadira would not have happened. God does work through people, and he is certainly working through us in the ideas that he has given us, and the ability to provide the funding to make things happen in a timely fashion.
God bless you all!!
Hoooya!!
