For God So Loved the World

Our current sermon series is titled For God So Loved the World. The title is taken from John 3:16. What is it all about? You’ve heard that verse before… can’t we talk about something new?

Consider your last airplane trip. You spent time in the airport, but the airport wasn’t your destination. The airport was necessary to get where you were going, but it wasn’t the reason for the trip. No-brainer, right?

Now think about the church. We sometimes forget that the church is not the destination, it’s like the airport… it helps us reach the destination. Watching church behavior, it’s often as if Christians rephrase John to read, “For God so loved the church that he sent his son.” Every week we will consider one of five practices of healthy churches, Hospitality, Worship, Faith Development, Missions and Giving. We will consider how an airport understanding of these practices differs radically from the destination paradigm. This series will culminate with a weekend visit from an outstanding church consultant named Reggie McNeal who is an expert in this area.
